What a good resignation letter does
It does 3 things. Then it stops.
It says you're resigning. It names your last working day. It leaves the relationship intact.
You don't owe anyone a reason. If you want to give one, keep it short. "I've taken a role that moves me closer to product work" lands better than a list of grievances, even when the grievances are fair.
Say something real about the handover. It's one sentence, it costs you nothing. It's also the line your manager remembers when someone calls for a reference in 2 years.
What to leave out
The complaints. The comparison to your new offer. Anything you'd hate to see forwarded.
Because letters like this do get forwarded.
Keep the tone warm even when the exit isn't. The people in that room turn up again in this industry, usually at the worst possible moment. A calm letter's free insurance.
Notice periods
Check your contract before you pick the date.
2 weeks is the US norm. India runs longer, often 30 to 90 days. It's usually written into the offer letter you signed.
Put the real date in the letter. Negotiate separately if you need to go sooner.
