How to job search while working full time
Updated 2026-07-26 · honest comparison by the Sendout team
The problem is not motivation. It is that a serious search is roughly a part-time job and you already have a full one.
Do the arithmetic honestly. At around 25 minutes per full application, even a modest eight a week is over three hours, before interviews, before any preparation, at the end of days you are already tired from.
Staying discreet
- Never use your work email or work laptop. Both are typically visible to your employer.
- Be careful with LinkedIn. Turn off activity broadcasts before updating your profile. The "open to work" setting has a recruiters-only option, which is not a guarantee but is far better than the public banner.
- Interviews outside working hours where possible. Early morning and late afternoon are easier to explain than a mysterious midday gap.
- Be careful about references. Do not list your current manager, and say plainly that your search is confidential.
Where the hours can come from
Sort the work into two piles. The pile that needs you: deciding which roles you want, the written answers, the interviews, the conversations. And the pile that does not: finding postings, filtering out ghosts, creating accounts, retyping your history, remembering to follow up.
The second pile is the majority of the hours and none of the value. It is also the pile that runs perfectly well during your working day without you.
What that looks like
Sendout runs the second pile daily. Fresh ghost-filtered roles, full applications on the employer's own system, outreach to the hiring person from your own accounts at human pace, follow-ups on schedule. You check the inbox in the evening and reply to the humans. Pause it any week that gets busy.
What makes Sendout different
Three things. They happen to be the three biggest complaints people have about every other tool in this category.
- It works from your own accounts. Applications and outreach go out from your real email and LinkedIn. Human pace. Your voice. Your reputation carries them, not a vendor's server IP. Nothing sprays.
- It fills real application forms. Sendout completes actual ATS applications on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workday. It answers the open-ended questions in your voice. This is a real submission, not a browser autofill you still have to babysit.
- It filters ghost jobs. Roughly one in five postings is stale or a repost nobody reads. Sendout drops those and pursues live openings where a real hiring person can be reached.
When a recruiter replies, the conversation lands in one inbox. You can take over any thread with a click. You show up to the conversations. Sendout does the busywork.
Frequently asked
Can my employer see that I am job searching on LinkedIn?
They can see public profile changes and activity if broadcasts are on. Turn off activity broadcasts before editing, and use the recruiters-only option rather than the public open-to-work banner.
How do I take interview calls while employed?
Schedule outside core hours where you can, never use work devices or accounts, and treat calendar gaps early or late in the day as easier to explain than midday ones.
Search without the evenings
Sendout finds fresh, real openings and applies for you. Everything goes out from your own email and LinkedIn, every day. You just take the conversations.
