How many jobs should you apply to per day?

Updated 2026-07-26 · honest comparison by the Sendout team

Everyone quotes a number. Almost nobody checks whether that number fits inside a day.

The advice ranges from five a day to fifty. Both are quoted confidently. The useful thing is not the number, it is the arithmetic underneath it.

Do the hours first

A realistic full application takes around 25 minutes once you count finding the posting, creating the account, entering your history, writing the custom answers, and the follow-up a week later. At that rate:

If someone is doing 20 a day by hand for weeks, they are either not tailoring anything or they are burning out. Usually both.

What matters more than the count

A realistic target

If you are doing everything by hand, five to eight well-chosen applications a day with real answers and actual follow-up will out-perform twenty untailored ones, and you will still be functioning in three weeks.

If you want genuine volume, the mechanical parts have to stop being yours. That is what Sendout does. It sources fresh openings, drops the ghosts, completes real applications on the company's own system, and follows up, daily, without eating your evening.

What makes Sendout different

Three things. They happen to be the three biggest complaints people have about every other tool in this category.

When a recruiter replies, the conversation lands in one inbox. You can take over any thread with a click. You show up to the conversations. Sendout does the busywork.

Frequently asked

Is 10 applications a day too many?

By hand it is roughly four hours a day, which most people cannot hold for long while tailoring properly. It is achievable if the mechanical work is automated.

Does quantity or quality matter more?

Quality of fit and whether a real person is reached matter more per application. Volume helps only when the applications are still landing somewhere live.
