These get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing. One saves you typing. The other saves you the evening.
The distinction is simple once you see it: who presses submit.
Autofill
A browser extension recognises fields on the application page and populates them from a saved profile. Name, email, phone, links, sometimes education and work history. Most of these are free and they are genuinely worth installing.
Where autofill stops: company-specific dropdowns whose options it has never seen, custom fields each team configures itself, and every open-ended question. And it never presses submit. You still find the job, open the application, review it, write the real answers, and send.
Auto-apply
Software completes the whole application and submits it. That means reading the real form rather than assuming a template, choosing from the options actually present on the page, writing the free-text answers, and sending. You see the result rather than the form.
Note that there are two very different things sold as auto-apply. Bulk one-click tools that fire LinkedIn Easy-Apply at scale, which carry account risk and produce untailored applications. And tools that complete full applications on employers' own systems. Those are not comparable products.

Which one you actually want
If you apply to a few carefully chosen roles and you want control over every submit, autofill is the right tool and it costs nothing. If the volume is what is breaking you, autofill will not fix it, because the parts it does not cover are the slow parts.
