The distinction is simple once you see it: who presses submit.
Autofill
A browser extension recognises fields on the application page. It populates them from a saved profile. Name, email, phone, links, sometimes education and work history. Most of these are free. They're genuinely worth installing.
Where autofill stops: company-specific dropdowns whose options it has never seen, custom fields each team configures itself, and every open-ended question. And it never presses submit. You still find the job, open the application, review it, write the real answers, and send.
Auto-apply
Software completes the whole application and submits it. It's about reading the real form rather than assuming a template.
It chooses from options present on the page. Then it writes free-text answers and sends.

Note that there are two very different things sold as auto-apply. Bulk one-click tools that fire LinkedIn Easy-Apply at scale, which carry account risk and produce untailored applications. And tools that complete full applications on employers' own systems. Those aren’t comparable products.

Which one you actually want
If you apply to a few carefully chosen roles and you want control over every submit, autofill is the right tool. It's free.
If the volume is what's breaking you, autofill won’t fix it. The parts it doesn’t cover are the slow parts.

Does autofill work on Workday?
Partially. Workday has per-employer instances and multi-step flows with company-specific options, so autofill typically covers the basic fields and leaves you to finish the rest, including creating the account.
